Nicholas J. Begich Middle School

Anchorage School District
Anchorage, Alaska
RSA provided mechanical and electrical design and construction administration services for a new middle school in east Anchorage. The 176,000-sqaure foot building consists of 40 core academic spaces arranged in four “houses” to provide a home base for smaller groups of students. The building includes classrooms, office space, cafeteria, dining area, library, and gymnasium. The auditorium is a combined cafeteria and auditorium with a full-sized stage. An affordable multizone linear fluorescent dimming system has been installed in the auditorium to accommodate cafeteria, sports and performance events. The Kitchen and shop area has been outfitted with cord reels to allow for flexible arrangements of equipment in the spaces. Power connections and a wireless network access has been provided throughout the building to allow for fluent integration of student computers in the system. This project was completed early and under budget.
